LPS Events organises aquabike events for athletes of all abilities. An aquabike event is a competition that is composed of swimming and cycling. You start with a swim, then transition to a bike, before finishing the race, there may be a few short steps on foot to get to the finish line.
The concept of an aquabike event is relatively new, and has only been accredited by Triathlon England in the last year or so. Meaning that there is no specific set distance and no norm of a race. Our current aquabike event consists of a 1100m open water swim, followed by a 30km cycle.

Preparing for an Aquabike Event
The key to success in any sporting event is the right training. Leading up to the race you need to plan weekly rides and runs. You should start training around 12 weeks before the race. The more preparation you put in leading up the aquabike, the better prepared and fit you will be on the day. Try to aim to be riding and swimming at least twice a week. You should schedule your swimming and cycling just as you would for fitness classes or the gym. Part of your training should be cycling straight after a swim.
As the day of the aquabike gets closer ensure your bike has been tuned up and is running efficiently.
The general advice is not start too hard in the swim. Novice athletes should start calmly and save enough energy for the cycle stage, as the swim can quite often tire you out more than expected. You should always try to think ahead. Never look back and think about the people behind you. Stay focused on what is ahead at all times.
Another tip is to attach your cycle shoes to your bike, to save you time when you are transitioning from swim to bike, but ensure you practice this as part of your transition training.
Aquabike events are suitable for those who cannot or do not run.
