John Wood - Coach
I've been involved in swimming for the last 22 years and have competed at National and International levels. Within this period I've coached and taught for the last 12 years including multiple national finalists and champions. I took up triathlon 6 years ago successfully competing at 3 European Age Group Championships, with a best placing of 4th in 2012 in Eilat, Israel & 5th in Alanya, Turkey. I have raced all distances of triathlon, from super-sprint to Ironman, having started with the intention of just doing a couple of races for fun! I started coaching triathlon and running in the last two years.
My coaching aims for two things – outside of the athletes’ own aims. Firstly, a smile on the face! We all do this for a hobby, regardless of what level we are at, so enjoying training to some extent is paramount. Secondly, learning and education is important, to make sure why we are doing the drills we do, why we are doing the sessions and the cycles that we are set. I aim to give that learning as a part of the coaching, but is always keen to learn more!
