Luke Shipway - Coach
My background began with running from an early age, with almost 15 years experience in competition, of distances up to and including marathon. I transferred my skills into cycling and then swimming around 8 years ago, in which I took to fairly quickly. I sought advice from more experienced friends and researched myself to develop my own training schedules before any formal qualifications were acquired.
After training through the summer of 2006 and a wet cold winter, I was competing in 5 & 10km running events, sprint & standard triathlon events almost every weekend, on reflection now; this was too much at the time. However this gave me a fast and efficient base of fitness where I had time at my own disposal.
In 2007, I entered into the Junior Elite rate at Blenheim Palace Triathlon; I was on the start list with current world champions, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. This race gave me an insight to a completely 'new' experience, having only started open water swimming two months before, coupled with swimming being my weakest discipline, I was left for dust. My tactical training and experience helped me through the rest of the race. Many hours spent on the bike and the natural ability to run helped me through the tough course to finish in 32nd place from a pool of the best current athletes at the time.
More recently, I was nominated to carry the Olympic Torch for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The nomination came through a combination of fundraising and marathon training, which lead me onto a fantastic experience.
To me, fitness is not always the main focus of training; everybody can train to be fit. The make or break for a race, comes from your race strategy and tactics. Personally I believe this is where my strengths lie. If you can help determine your weakness, I can help fix them, giving you a solid strategy to perform better.
As a technical official, event director and manager, I can find the best way to work with the current rules of the sport, to help you perform to the best of your limit.

I was formerly involved with a local running club, Calne SMaRTT. Part of this role was leading sessions & certain aspects of specific training sessions. I was also involved in the development of the beginners section of this club, successfully getting non runners across many finish lines ranging up to marathon distance over the course of 6-12 months.
I have 5 years experience in group training and one to one coaching & training. This has been across a range of single discipline and multi sport activities, with both individual athletes and teams.
I have trained and worked with many runners, both short and long distance athletes. I understand a variety of injuries and problems associated with training in different forms, which in turn, helps prevent an injury when training.
